Summary
After ten years spent in a refugee camp in Sabirabad, a middle-aged Azerbaijani folk composer goes in search of his Armenian wife and their child, from whom he was separated during the Azerbaijan-Armenian conflict. His quest—which parallels the Azerbaijani folktale of the two lovers, Asli and Karam, is paired with a lyrical and detailed depiction of the musician's memories of his wife and the traditional music about which he is so passionate. Raami explores the relationships between nature, war, music, and folklore. The director Shirinsefat, an Iranian Azerbaijan whose art focuses on his homeland's history, folklore and mythology, telescopes past and present, meditates on memory, love and intolerance, and calls his film an "experience on the closeness of myths to our present time."
